The ash fell softly outside the palace windows, coating the gold trim in grey dust. Elend stood before the map of Scadrial, his fingers tracing the borders of lands that were finally free. He remembered Kelsier's laughter, now a ghost in the mist. The crown felt heavy on his brow, heavier than any sword he had ever held.
