The mist curled around her boots as she burned steel. A weightless leap carried her over the guard's spear. She swallowed a coin of pewter, feeling strength surge through her veins like liquid fire. There was no sound, only the crackle of magic in the damp air.

Reader's Guide

Mistborns burn specific metals to access powers categorized into physical and emotional effects within their unique Allomantic system. Physical metals allow pushing or pulling on external metal sources for movement, combat, and defense. Emotional metals influence the senses of others or the user's own mental state. Limitations include finite metal supply and the severe risk of overexertion causing physical collapse or death. Famous users like Vin mastered combining these pushes and pulls for complex aerial acrobatics known as the dance. In combat, they are incredibly versatile, capable of deflecting projectiles with steel or calming enemies using tin. However, they remain vulnerable to Hemalurgy or powerful enemies who can detect their metal consumption through copperclouds created by burning copper. Mastery requires immense discipline to balance the influx of power without losing control during high-stress situations.
